01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Filled with the fragrant aroma of charcoal grilling, Okiraku in Kanda Ogawamachi showcases chicken cookery built on meticulous prep and high-heat technique. Plain wood counters and well-spaced tables establish an orderly, composed dining room well-suited to taking one's time over dinner.

Omakase skewer courses rich in rare cuts

The core of the evening menu is the omakase skewer selection, available in 7-, 10-, and 12-stick formats. The chef coaxes peak flavour from less common cuts such as seseri (neck meat), tsunagi (heart-aorta connector), otafuku (thymus), and fundoshi (gizzard fringe). Diners can state preferences or cuts they prefer to avoid at ordering, and the kitchen takes additional care to tailor the skewer sequence to the styles of drink chosen for the table.

The beverage lineup is similarly deliberate, spanning Japanese craft gins, sake with crisp acidity, Burgundy and other wines, and premium whiskies. Alongside glasses of these, one can linger over à la carte dishes including seared Kyobeni Jidori tataki, house-made chicken liver pâté, and rolled dashi omelettes prepared with Okukuji eggs.

Lunchtime yakitori bowls and tender dashi-rich oyakodon

At midday, the kitchen's craft is accessible through hearty rice bowls. The popular yakitori don features multiple cuts charred over charcoal, glazed in sweet-savoury tare, and balanced with shishito pepper and Welsh onion. Alternatively, the oyakodon blankets aromatic cooked chicken in softly set egg and deep dashi stock, served with a bowl of hot chicken broth for a comforting, satisfying lunch.

From a weekday bowl packed with distinct grilled flavours to an unhurried evening pairing skewers with wine or craft spirits, the restaurant offers an immersive look at carefully handled chicken.
